PyTAB2GIS

Published desktop and command-line tool that converts semi-structured Excel coordinate tables into validated, explicitly projected GIS geometries and delivery packages.

Overview

PyTAB2GIS is a lightweight desktop utility designed for geological, environmental, and engineering workflows. It converts structured Excel tables (such as drillhole data, sample coordinate sheets, or geological observations) directly into GIS-ready spatial formats.

By streamlining data conversion, it reduces manual import errors and bridge the gap between spreadsheets and GIS suites like QGIS or ArcGIS.

Key Features

  • Direct Excel Import: Seamlessly parses .xlsx and .xls files.
  • Coordinate Detection: Automatically detects geographic (latitude/longitude) or projected (UTM Easting/Northing) columns.
  • GIS Export Formats: Outputs clean, structured ESRI Shapefiles (SHP) and AutoCAD DXF drawings.
  • Attribute Retention: Preserves all tabular attribute schemas and data types during conversion.
  • Simple Desktop GUI: Easy-to-use interface built for technicians, geologists, and environmental engineers.
