Privacy Policy for Lithica Explorer

This policy explains how Jordan Zavaleta, operating under the developer identity GisGeo Dev, processes information when you use Lithica Explorer, package identifier com.gisgeodev.lithicaexplorer.

1. Scope and purpose

Lithica Explorer is a local-first field geology application for maps, observations, photographs, audio notes, measurements, scientific classifications, technical files, and optional project synchronization.

2. Information we process

Lithica Explorer is a local-first application. Projects, geological observations, field photographs, audio notes, structural measurements, imported files, and classifications are stored on your device unless you explicitly export or synchronize them.

  • Google account: Firebase Authentication processes your Google account identifier, name, and email address to sign you in and maintain authorized access.
  • Consent and access records: Firestore stores access status, consent versions and timestamps, newsletter preference, and Google Drive authorization status and scopes.
  • Field data: Project records and scientific content remain local unless you choose to export or synchronize them.

3. How information is used

Information is used to authenticate authorized users, preserve consent and access choices, provide field functions requested by the user, synchronize selected projects, prevent abuse, and provide support. GisGeo Dev does not sell personal information or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

4. Device permissions

  • Camera: Captures geological evidence and field images when you use camera features.
  • Location: Provides approximate or precise positioning for navigation and georeferenced observations.
  • Microphone: Records voice notes only when you choose to use audio capture.
  • Internet: Supports sign-in, update checks, optional synchronization, downloads, and external data sources.

You may deny Camera, Location, or Microphone access in Android. Features that depend on a denied permission will not operate.

5. Service providers and external services

Google Drive synchronization is optional and requires separate authorization. Lithica Explorer requests the drive.file scope, which allows it to access files created or opened through the app rather than unrestricted access to all files in your Drive. Google processes this information under its own privacy policy.

Optional modules may query external sources such as GEOCATMIN, remote sensing providers, international geology services, the Paleobiology Database, or Mindat. Requests sent to those providers are subject to their respective policies and availability.

6. Newsletter

News and development emails are optional. Your choice and its timestamp are stored with your consent record. You can opt out from Settings in the app or by writing to jordanzav@gisgeo.dev.

7. Data sharing and security

GisGeo Dev does not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Locally stored data remains under your control. Information sent to Google services is protected in transit using encrypted connections. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

8. Retention and deletion

Account, access, consent, and preference records are retained while needed to operate the application and document user choices. After a verified deletion request, GisGeo Dev deletes the Firebase Authentication account and associated Firestore records within 30 days, except for limited information that must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes. Local and Google Drive files remain under the user's control and must be removed from those locations by the user.

10. Your choices and rights

You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data processed by GisGeo Dev, revoke Google Drive access from your Google account, and change your newsletter preference in the app. To delete your account and associated personal data, see the account deletion request page. 11. Children's privacy

Lithica Explorer is a professional field geology tool and is not directed to children under 13. GisGeo Dev does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. International processing

Google Firebase and Google Drive may process information in countries other than the user's country under Google's applicable data-protection terms and safeguards.

13. Updates and contact

This policy may be updated when the application or its data practices change. Significant changes will be reflected by the Last Updated date on this page and, where required, by a new in-app consent request.
