Overview
Lithica Notebook is the dedicated offline scientific document reader and study companion of the Lithica Suite. Engineered primarily for Android phones and tablets—with cross-platform adaptability for Windows desktops—it delivers an offline-first environment for consulting computational notebooks, research papers, reports, and datasets without relying on cloud services or external interpreters.
Reading does not execute code. Lithica Lab can execute cells and install packages when requested; run only trusted code. Optional Google Drive features transfer files and metadata to your Google account.
Supported Scientific & Technical Formats
- Jupyter Notebooks (.ipynb): Complete cell rendering including Markdown, code blocks, formatted console text, execution errors, HTML tables, and outputs with embedded PNG, JPEG, and SVG graphics.
- Office Documents (.docx & .odt): Built-in local web rendering engine for Word documents with exact headings, styling, nested lists, tables, and embedded imagery, accompanied by a visual export bridge to PDF.
- Technical & Academic PDFs (.pdf): Multi-page document viewer with smooth zoom and page scrolling, along with physical ink annotations (pdf_ink) and non-destructive page management.
- Scientific Publishing & Markdown: Support for Markdown (.md, .markdown), Quarto (.qmd), and R Markdown (.rmd) documents with interactive external links and code formatting.
- Mathematical Sources (.tex): LaTeX source reader with section navigation and mathematical equations rendered via KaTeX.
- Tabular Data & Databases: Delimited tables (.csv, .tsv), spreadsheet workbooks (.xlsx) with sheet selectors, advanced numeric formatting, and an integrated SQLite reader (.sqlite, .db).
- Reading Formats & Rich Text: DRM-free offline .epub e-books with chapter tables of contents, presentation slideshows (.pptx) optimized for reading, .rtf, and selectable plaintext (.txt, .log).
Key Innovations
Local DOCX Web Viewer & Visual PDF Bridge
Lithica Notebook incorporates an embedded web rendering pipeline that parses and displays Word DOCX files with fidelity to their layout, typography, tables, and figures. A dedicated visual bridge enables high-precision visual PDF export directly from the rendered document.
Study Planner & Pomodoro Timer
The application features a built-in study and workflow agenda with a persistent Pomodoro timer, keeping track of study blocks across app restarts. It includes local notification scheduling for deadlines and planned review sessions, plus agenda-sharing options.
File Management & Classification
Users can import entire folder trees into organized workspaces, manage incoming documents from other apps, and classify scientific materials through an intuitive classification dialog.
Non-Destructive Storage & Lab Mode
All user annotations, inserted pages, and Lab notebook working copies are persisted separately in application support storage. The original imported documents remain pristine and unmodified.
